Alpaca's should be kept in three's at least. They are herd animals and don't enjoy the solitary life. They need a field shelter because their fleece lacks the lanolin that keeps it waterproof and there's always plenty of rain in Argyll. The lack of lanolin means that the fleece is hypoallergenic of course.
Cold is a different matter - they LOVE the frosty, dry winter days and nights.
Husbandry:
Toenails - need trimming every 3 - 4 months. More often on the white animals.
Dosing - always consult with your vet in order to make sure your animals are vaccinated against the prevalent diseases in the area.
Shearing - once a year by an experienced shearer - then send it to a mill for processing into yarn or spin it yourself.
